Welcome to Statistics for Innovation (sfi)²
From SFI
(sfi)²-Statistics for Innovation is one of the 14 Norwegian Centres for Research-based Innovation. (sfi)² develops core statistical methodologies, strategically necessary to achieve innovation goals in four key sectors: petroleum, finance, marine and health.

- Tuesday February 9, 14.15-15.00: David Hirst (Norwegian Computing Center), A Bayesian hierarchical modelling approach to estimating landings- and discards-at-age. University of Oslo, Mathematics building (Niels Henrik Abels hus), 8th floor, room B81
- Wednesday lunch, February 10: Peter Guttorp is visiting us
[edit] News
- We are running a reading group on the theme Bayesian Networks and Graphical models. Email Andrew Brown if you wish to join.
- Nature highlights results in the paper by (among others) Heidi Lyng, Marit Holden, Ingrid Glad and Linn Cecilie Bergersen. Congratulations!
- New website of Forskningsrådet which explains funding opportunities for the industry: Click here.
- The Yggdrasil mobility programme promotes the internationalisation of Norwegian research by offering grants to international Ph.D. students and younger researchers in connection with an up to 10 months research stays in Norway. The programme seeks to make Norway an attractive research destination for highly qualified international Ph.D. students and younger researchers in all subject areas, thus strengthening the Norwegian research communities involved. Grant applications will be accepted from the following countries: All European countries, including all Council of Europe member states, except for the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Sweden). Non-European countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Egypt, India, Israel, Japan, Mexico and South Africa. See here how to apply. Contact us for help. Deadline 17.02.2010.
- ClimateWise is the collaborative insurance initiative through which members aim to work together to respond to the myriad risks and opportunities of climate change. Our projects CCII, ClimateInsure and IFCC support the Media: document "Insurers call for 40% emission cuts by 2020 to control the risks arising from climate change", presented for UN climate change negotiations in Copenhagen in December.
Statistics for Innovation is one of the 14 Norwegian Centres for Research-based Innovation. Host institution of (sfi)² is the Norwegian Computing Center. Statistics for Innovation will develop core statistical methodologies, strategically necessary to achieve innovation goals in four key sectors: petroleum, finance, marine and health. The centre started in 2007 and will operate for eight years. It is based at the Norwegian Computing Center (Norsk Regnesentral, NR) in Oslo and is a partnership with the University of Oslo (UiO), the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and 11 partners: Statoil, DnBNOR, Gjensidige, Hydro, Institute of Marine Research, Sencel, Biomolex, Pubgene, Rikshospitalet-Radiumhospitalet, Smerud Medical research and Spermatech. Statistics for Innovation is funded by the Research Council of Norway and by the partners, with an annual budget of about 4 mill Euro. About 40 researchers will actively join the research projects of the centre. Statistics for Innovation participates to the UiO and NTNU training programmes and will fund many Ph.D grants and postdocs.
Host institution of (sfi)² is the Norwegian Computing Center.
